96-year-old Orange Marmalade recipe!
Recipe as written in Ladies Home Journal.
Orange Marmalade
Slice very thin 6 oranges and 3 lemons. Cover with water and allow to stand over night.
The next morning, boil this mixture 45 minutes. Let stand overnight again.
In the morning, measure and bring to boil and add one-and-a-half times as much sugar. Boil for 45 minutes. Add one-half to one Cup lemon juice.
Jar and seal.
And that's all they wrote!
Presumably this Great Depression Era recipe was primarily used by people living in the warmer parts of the U.S. - money was tight & citrus fruit was hard to get in places it didn't grow naturally!
